The Old Millhouse Dalkeith

The Old Millhouse, a pet friendly property sleeping up to 10 guests, combines both charm and heritage to provide guests with a unique and luxurious experience. Located in Dalkeith, just 8 miles from Edinburgh, this property is situated in 3.5 acres of gardens and is the ideal countryside escape for your next self-catering holiday. The Old Millhouse dates from 1703 and is one of the oldest in the town.

Featuring a relaxing Swimspa, WiFi and a SONOS sound system, the property was restored between 2013 and 2015. As well as the soothing sounds of the River Esk and local wildlife, guests can also relax with plenty of board games and books during their stay.

Bedrooms:

The Millers Room is located on the first floor, across from the Drawing Room. This en-suite room has a super king size bed, which can be split into twin beds upon request. The en-suite bathroom has a bath with overhead rain shower and a heated floor.

The Pentland Room is located on the 2nd floor and also has super king size bed, which can be split into twin beds up on request, as well as mohair throws for chillier nights. The en-suite bathroom has a heated floor and a walk in rain shower.

The Esk Room is the master suite in the house and is also on the second floor. Guests can enjoy the beautiful garden views from the windows. Guests also have the option of this bedroom being prepared with a super king size bed or twin beds. The luxurious en-suite bathroom has a heated floor, a roll top bath and a walk in rain shower and bidet.

The Dalkeith Room is situated on the third floor and has a super king size bed which can be split into twin beds upon request. From this en-suite loft bedroom guests have a view to the plum cherry trees. The en-suite bathroom features a rain shower.

The Toile de Jour Room is also a third floor loft bedroom and has been tastefully decorated in a French style. This bedroom has a double bed and a charming en-suite with walk-in shower.

Please note we do not provide hypoallergenic bedding at our properties.

Bathrooms:

5 en-suite bathrooms, all of which have power showers.

All rooms have a walk-in shower, with the exception of The Esk Room, which has a walk-in shower and a separate roll-top bath, as well as a bidet.

Other rooms:

The Sunroom on the ground level offers stunning garden views, along with a remote controlled fireplace. Here there is also a dining table seating up to 10 guests, ideal for your countryside self-catering break.

On this level we also find the Snug, a cosy den for some peace and quiet, with its own Smart TV and bar for you to enjoy a few hours.

The kitchen is also on the ground level and has all you need for your self-catering holiday, including a Nespresso machine, microwave, a range with two ovens, a fan assisted oven plus an induction hob. There are also two fridges, one in the kitchen and one in the utility room, which is accessed off the hall.

On the first floor we find the Drawing Room, complete with an open fire and smart TV offering Amazon and Netflix; perfect for a relaxed evening with the family.

Outdoor space:

There are 3.5 acres of fenced garden for guests to explore.

There's nothing like relaxing in a hot tub, but we go one step further and offer our guests a Swimspa, measuring 3m x 4m with room for 4 adults. Robes, spa towels and flip flops are provided for use of the Jacuzzi.


General:

This property is pet friendly and can accommodate 1 dog at no extra charge. Additional dogs may be accommodated upon request - please note there may be an additional charge for this.

The property also features WiFi, underfloor heating throughout the ground floor and heated towel rails in the bathrooms.

Check-in is from 4pm and check-out is by 10am. Access can be arranged with the House Manager, Johanne. You will receive her contact details after a booking has been made.

Bookings made at this property require a £850 damage deposit, which will be due 7 days before check-in. Providing there are no deductions to be made from this, the payment will be refunded to your card 5-7 working days after departure.

Please note the lead guest must be aged 40 years or older. Please complete all guest details on the booking form, and sign the terms and conditions form sent by The Old Millhouse team.

From the entrance foyer guests can access the bar and the kitchen, which leads onto the sunroom. The first floor features The Millers Room and drawing room, while the second floor contains the master bedroom, The Esk Room, and The Pentland Room. The upper floor features The Dalkeith and The Toile de Jour Rooms.

Exterior

This historic building dates from 1703 and is one of the oldest buildings in the town of Dalkeith. The house was restored between 2013-2015.
