Nice dog walks in North Berwick

When you stay at one of our pet-friendly holiday lets in North Berwick you are never far from a great dog walking spot.

Local dog walking routes include North Berwick Law, an easy climb on the south side of the town.

At the top walkers will find a replica whale jawbone, while on the route to the summit, Exmoor ponies can be seen.

Another great dog walk in North Berwick is to begin in the town and head east to Seacliff Beach, which in total is a 10km round walk.

From Seacliff Beach, walkers will have fantastic views of Tantallon Castle, a fortress constructed in the 14th century.

To the west of North Berwick is Yellowcraig Beach, a beach which dogs and humans alike always enjoy.

Walk through forest, dunes and onto the golden sand from which walkers can glimpse Fidra Island, the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel, Treasure Island.

The gardens, originally built for the residents, are open for the general public to enjoy.

Follow the marked paths and venture to forests, lakes, a boat house and even a mausoleum.

Please note dogs must be on a lead when visiting Gosford Estate.

Not far from here is the Longniddry Railway Walk, which begins at Longniddry Station car park and incorporates a 6.6km route to Haddington.

Dog walkers, cyclists and horse riders alike will enjoy spotting wildlife as well as Redhouse Castle and the Hopetoun Monument in the distance.

Pressmennan Wood is another great option for a family dog walk.

Children will love spotting a variety of wildlife on the 4km walk around the lake, as well as ‘fairy’ doors on the sides of trees said to be the home of small creatures.

Another nice dog walk in Dunbar is John Muir Country Park, named after John Muir who was born in Dunbar in 1838 and pioneered natural parks in the USA.

John Muir Country Park has many paths to explore, one of which marks the start of the John Muir Way, a 215km route from Dunbar on Scotland’s east coast to Helensburgh on the west coast.

Enjoy wildlife such as butterflies in July and August as well as seabirds throughout the year, including kittiwakes, skylarks and sand martins.
