Halloween in Edinburgh

When you take the short journey from East Lothian to Edinburgh you will find plenty more Halloween fun!

From 27th to 31st October 2023, enjoy the 'Halloween Hoots' event at Edinburgh Zoo.

Complete with a marshmallow toasting pit, this is a fantastic opportunity for the family to visit the zoo after hours and learn fascinating facts about the animals.

You can even attend the 'Zoo Boo Breakfast' on 28th October 2023, an exclusive morning tour led by the zoo's Discovery Rangers.

Later that day, visitors can also carve pumpkins at the Lemur Lodge!

If you are looking for something to do in Edinburgh city centre this Halloween, there are lots more spooky activities to choose from.

City of Edinburgh Tours offers ghost tours around some of the forgotten historic areas of the city, while free Ghost Tours are on offer every evening from the Royal Mile, during which you will learn some of the horrors behind this beautiful city!

The Edinburgh Ghost Bus Tour also introduces you to some of the haunted history behind the main attractions through the joy of theatre, including the Scott Monument and Edinburgh Castle.

However, perhaps the most prominent event in Edinburgh during the Halloween season is the Samhuinn Fire Festival.

This ancient Celtic festival is celebrated with fire, drumming and performances depicting the story of the transition from summer to winter.

In 2023 this event will take place in Holyrood Park again and begins at 7 pm on 31st October.
